UGC relaxes criteria for Women and PWDs pursuing PhD: AHSAAS

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to relax criteria for women and disabled candidates pursuing MPhil and PhD degrees. On the recommendations made by HRD Ministry now Women and those with more than 40% disability will now get a year extra to complete their MPhil papers and two years more to submit PhD thesis.

In addition to this women candidates will also be provided maternity leave and child care leave for up to 240 days once while they pursue these two degrees. Looking at the convenience of women who relocate due to marriage or otherwise, research data will be allowed to be transferred to the university which she intends to join provided all other conditions in these regulations are met and the research work does not pertain to a project secured by the parent institute supervisor from any funding agency. The scholar will give credit to the parent guide and institute for the research that she has already done.
