PWD kids demand relaxation in Hostel rules: Ahsaas Campaign

deaf and mute school Jaipur: In the times when Jaipur is Juggling to get established as Smart and Creative City, it still has fewer room for Persons With Disabilities. Despite of Central and State government schemes not much welfare has been done to this sect of people. Pink City lacks enough schools and Colleges for PWDs and basic hostel facility. The rules in the hostels are rigid due to which most of the deserving students are deprived of admissions. As a result many PWD children and their parents demand relaxation in rules and expansion of rooms for easy hostel admission.

Request declined Thrice:

Annu Raigar, 10 year old Hearing Impaired student of Poddar School aspires to become A grade officer . From last three years she scales distance of 65 kms everyday from her home in Dausa to Poddar School near Trimurti Circle. Her request for an accommodation in Poddar hostel has been declined thrice. Her father who works as a guard and suffering from Cancer tries his best to make her attend all classes.

Lack of Hostel:

Another student Aarti Sen (15 year old), Hearing and Speech Impaired student of Poddar School also awaits a seat in hostel. Her father has a make shift barber shop close to the school premises. She basically hails from Nagaur and is trying forhostel from last few years so that she can save the rent amount and time wasted during commuting.

Rules should be Relaxed:

P. R . Pandit Director, Disability Section, Social welfare Department assured that some way out will be sought for these deserving girl students. Mahesh Wadhawani, Principal of Anandilal Poddar School said, Both these students do not fullfill the 40 point criteria to get hostel admission, however both the cases are strong and deserve special attention. For an entrant it is compulsory that he or she must fulfill the mandatory criteria toscore min of 40 pointers. At present this school has 750 students and offers hostel facility to 165 boys and 80 girls.
