Illiteracy and Gender Discrimination, Key reasons for Child Marriage


Jaipur: In our country, child marriage has been practiced for centuries. As per a report published by UNICEF, 40% child marriages happen in India only. Illiteracy and Gender discrimination are the main causes. Despite the efforts of govt, stern laws and millions of expenditures, child marriage is still practiced in many parts of the country. Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have the worst record in child marriage. Religious traditions, social customs and  financial factors are also responsible. Child marriage is heinous act, it violates human rights and leaves a child physically, psychologically and emotionally scarred for the rest of his/her life.

Rajasthan Patrika-MAG has initiated a campaign to expose the ground reality and to stop this evil practice. Awareness and immediate action is the key to end it.
