Child Marriage, a violation of human rights

Jaipur : In India, a large number of weddings happen on Akshaya Tritiya. Unfortunately, every year on this day thousands of children also get married.  According to Hindu belief,  “Akshaya Tritiya” (also known as Akha Teej) is a special day as no consultation of Ephemeris and Pundits are required for auspicious and important work.

According to National Family Health Survey, in India, 26.8 % girls and 20.3% boys get married before they come of age. In Rajasthan, 35% girls get married before they turn 18. The statistics are shocking. Patrika is campaigning against child marriage in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh through “Laado campaign”. Since the beginning of Laado to till date, 3,789 child marriages were stopped in Madhya Pradesh. Govt depts are also taking cognizance of news published in Patrika. NGos and many social group are also joining the cause. The objective is to create more awareness and motivate society to stop this malpractice once and for all.
